Matcha (抹茶) is a special type of Japanese green tea. It is made from the same plant as other types of true tea such as green tea, white tea, black tea, oolong tea, and puerh tea; the Camellia sinensis plant. It is not an instant tea. It does not dissolve in water, instead it is a powdered form of tea that becomes suspended when whisked in water. Not just any tea can be ground up to create matcha.
